Rosa Parks attended rural schools until the age of eleven then enrolled at the Industrial School for Girls in Montgomery where she took academic and vocational courses. She had mixed memories of her childhood, ranging from kindnesses of strangers to the Ku Klux Klan marching past her house, with her grandfather guarding their door with a shotgun, and her school twice being burned by arsonists.
