∙ 15y agoIt's highly unlikely considering he was a naval pilot and a test pilot of such aircraft as the X-15 which he flew to a height of 63km. He was often in emergency situations and was noted for his cool head - not the sort of man to easily panic.

∙ 11y agoOn September 3, 1951, his F9F Panther was hit by anti-aircraft fire while flying a reconnaissance mission during the Korean War. He subsequently collided with a pole while approximately 20 feet above the ground, which took off about 3 feet of his right wing. He was forced to eject over water, and the whereabouts of his wrecked aircraft remain unknown. Then there was the X-15 incident on April 20, 1962.

∙ 13y agoNo, he was completely confident that he would succeed. He was a seasoned naval test pilot who had encountered many challenges and learned to control any doubts or fears he may have had about the mission. He was excited and eager to board Apollo 11.
