Was the movie enemy at the gate realistic or unrealistic?

Not even close. SAMs have only enough fuel for one pass, and would have either exploded when near the aircraft or when it was near the fireball. There is no way a SAM could have looped back through the smoke and continued its chase.

Personally , I felt the film lacked historical background/depth and was mostly a fictionalized account of the battle for Stalingrad and it's combatants ; my opinion .
