The Cheyenne Indians, assuming they were under the protection of the U.S. Government, returned to Colorado's Sand creek reserve for the winter. Colonel John Chivington and his troup's killed over 115 habitants mostly women and children on the order of General Curtis. Came right out of a "The Americans" History book.

The Battle of The Little Bighorn, e.g. "the Battle of the Greasy Grass", occurred June 25-26, 1878 on the Little Bighorn River, near Garryowen, in the Montana Territory (now the State of Montana). The Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho, led by several major war leaders, including Crazy Horse and Chief Gall, were victorious over General Custer.

In 1857 the site now known as Cheyenne was platted by General Grenville M. Dodge and his survey crew. Dodge called the area "Crow Creek Crossing" but friends who had accompanied him on the journey named it "Cheyenne" for the American Indian Cheyenne nation.
