It is merely an opinion on which is better but Left 4 dead 2 has much more things to do compared to the first one. It also includes 3 more special infected, the "Spitter", the "Charger", and the "Jockey". The online multiplayer is also much more improved with an updated "Director A.I." system to generate a different experience according to your play strategy. If I were to make the decision, I'd say get Left 4 Dead 2. You can get Left 4 Dead 1 some other time.
