I am sorry to hear it has come to this, but you're right. When children of 16 think they have all the answers it's best to put them out in the real world to see reality. I know this is extremely hard on you and even if angry, you will worry about your child, but in most cases, once they have had a taste of the real world they usually come home with their tail between their legs and realize just how good they did have it at home.
Your teenager is probably just normal; rude, moody, knows the answers to every frequented question in the world, and it's basically "flexing their wings." Time for them to leave the nest, get a good look and perhaps fly back to the nest one more time, but with a renewed respect towards their parent(s).
