A good description of Dorothy Gale is given within the first couple pages of the book The Wizard of Oz. Author and Oz series originator Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 5, 1919] describes her as having a merry voice despite the grayness of Aunt Em and Uncle Henry, and of the sky, the prairies, the plowed soil, the grass, the farmhouse, the daily activities, and the cyclones.
