Figures for numbers of shows are very hard to come by. the 1990s saw the rapid expansion of TV channels and therefore a similar expansion in the number of shows being produced. Consider also that television is global, and it is easy to see that counting them is just about impossible.

What most people will agree is that there were far more shows being made at the end of the decade than the beginning. The same is the case for decades before and after. There is likely to be an ever expanding range of productions as broadcast channels keep increasing in number. Our challenge, as viewers is to find the shows worth watching among the hundreds and thousands that have questionable value.
