There are two specifically that are good for the abstract themes explored and extreme elements, I cannot say to much, because anything could possibly give away the turns, but The Chaos Experiment and The Killing Room deliver.
Thriller films are generally fancied by those who like to be in more imaginary world than realistic world. They replace themselves in the place of the person and the circumstances. He enjoys being on the edge of his seat. But in reality they are not very good to deal when such circumstances are confronted
The psychological thriller, Funny Games, was written and directed by Peter Haneke. It's a story about a family who goes on vacation to their lakehouse and get tortured by their sadistic neighbors. They have to put up a good fight and escape in order to survive.
I think a good solid storyline. To have us fall into step with a character and watch him/her suffer, you want to almost feel sorry for them but get lost with them. A storyline where we, as an audience, can relate to through past experiences, mutually sometimes. Like deaths, a loss of a pet or a car accident? :)

The acting is really good. It's almost realistic where the monsters come out.
