It sank because it hit an iceberg. It hit an iceberg because of the recklessness of its captain and the boss of the company who owned her. They were trying to break the transatlantic record,and knew full well they were in iceberg infested waters, but plowed on at full speed anyway. The Titanic also sank because the Titanic did not hit the iceberg head-on. If it had, the compartments would have closed around the leak and the Titanic might not have sunk. Another reason was that the steel in those days was brittle,particularly in freezing temperatures. the hull was also riveted,not welded.
they could have saved more men if they would have had more life boats
