In the CRT (cathode-ray tube) of a computer or video monitor an electron beam moves back and forth across the back of the screen. Each time the beam makes a pass across the screen, it lights up phosphor dots (pixels) on the inside of the glass tube, thereby illuminating the active portions of the screen. By drawing many such lines from the top to the bottom of the screen, it creates an entire image. A color CRT uses three electron guns which activate red light-emitting, green light-emitting, and blue light-emitting phosphors.

What are the video out options on your Mac Book and the Video in options on your Cinema display?
A video signal combines all colors into one signal, while an RGB signal separates colors into red, green, and blue signals. RGB signals generally offer higher quality and are more compatible with display devices that support them, resulting in better color accuracy and sharper images.
Many modern video devices use a blue screen to indicate that the device is on but that there is no video signal to display. Older devices commonly used black, but the problem with that is it's harder to distinguish between "the screen doesn't work" and "something else isn't working."
The symbol for Video Display Corporation in NASDAQ is: VIDE.
