Law and Order involves a group of deectives who investigate various crimes from bank robberies, to muggings, to rapes and murders. Then the district attorney prosecutes the suspect in court. In Law and Order SVU, the group of detectives belong to a special division of the NYPD that investigates only sexually based crimes. Then the district attorney's office has a special attorney assigned to prosecute these specific suspects. Both shows have the same idea. Law and order focuses more on the lawyers while Law and Order SUV focuses more on the investigation by deectives and phsychologists.
