Larger churches were needed for large congregations. Cathedrals often were used for such events as consecrations, and almost all coronations took place in cathedrals or other large churches. Events such as these would be attended by huge numbers of people. Cathedrals were also the churches associated with the administrative centers of dioceses. They often had colleges, schools, and monasteries associated with them, the members of which might have attended services in very large numbers more than once every day.
