If you mean what was the hurricane called Then i know It was called HURRICANE SANDY
The strongest type of extreme weather in terms of overall energy output would probably be a tropical cyclone (hurricane, typhoon, etc.). In terms of the violence of the event a tornado is the strongest.
The height may very based upon the weather environment. Stronger storms have higher cloud heights. The following link explains it some based on hurricane Isabel. http://www.eorc.jaxa.jp/en/imgdata/topics/2003/tp031006_2.html
The same kind of weather that you have in your time. As a general rule weather has not changed that much and even with the threat of global warming (real or not) the weather is not changing that much that fast.
The driving distance between Little Rock, AR and Galveston, TX is approximately 485 miles. The driving time would be approximately 8 hours 30 minutes if you were to travel non-stop in good driving conditions. (The driving time does not take into consideration conditions which may extend trip time such as weather, road work and rush hour traffic in urban areas.)

It was the storm surge that covered Galveston Island that drowned over eight thousand people. There was really no place to go when the storm hit the island. It cut off any escape routes. There also was no highland on Galveston Island that the people could flee to to escape the storm. This storm has killed more than any disaster in american history. Nothing has come close and hopefully nothing ever will.
Hurricane Ike made landfall along the Gulf Coast near Galveston, Texas on September 13, 2008. While it did not directly hit Louisiana, the state experienced severe weather as a result of the storm's impact.
