In general, English or Te Reo Maori, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education and Health are compulsory up to Year 10. In Year 11, English or Te Reo Maori and Mathematics is compulsory, and at many schools English or Te Reo Maori is compulsory in Year 12. There are no compulsory subjects in Year 13.

School in New Zealand is much like school in most western countries especially Australia (the closest large country), however it is also influenced by the native culture of Maori so most schools teach children basic Maori words (kupu) and songs (waiata). Some schools are taught all in Te Reo Maori (the Maori language) and are called Kura Kaupapa Maori.

It was appreciated early on that education is a very important driver of personal and community growth and wellbeing. And many immigrants were not in favour of the Class System - which may be antipathetic to common education.

[In Otago, soon after its founding in 1848, a levy on land sales was put aside for the creation of a University - such was the need seen for education. This is why the U of Otago pre-dates the U of New Zealand.]

Yes, people/students are educated in New Zealand. Very smart so i suggest you go to Auckland city in Flat bush. The best school is probably Mission Heights Junior College
