A remote control or RC is a small, usually hand-held, electronic device which is used to control another device, such as a television, radio or video recording device. Remote controls commonly control the target using LED infrared signals, radio frequency signals or via umbilical cable. The remote control may control a variety of functions such as volume, channel, track number and other functions. Modern remote control devices often have more controlling functions than are found on the device itself, which may have only a few primary essential controls. The range that these RC systems can control the target can vary from a few metres to kilometres depending on the technology used.

Autonomous control means for a system to be able to perform a process without external intervention. Autonomous control systems that have high levels of autonomy should be able to complete tasks by its self. For Autonomous systems to complete these tasks they need to have hardware and software which can achieve the required task without the need of external intervention. A fully autonomous system should have the ability to repair one of its components if it fails, other systems should also be able troubleshoot and solve problems without external intervention.
