The selection process for an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer involves three main stages: the Preliminary Examination, the Main Examination, and the Personality Test (Interview). The Preliminary Examination consists of two objective-type papers that serve as a screening test. Candidates who qualify move on to the Main Examination, which includes nine descriptive papers, followed by a Personality Test conducted by the UPSC board. Successful candidates are then allocated to the IAS based on their overall performance and rank.

The starting salary of an army officer is more than an ias officer..but in later stages salary of ias offr increases at a faster rate than an army offr.........this is the reason why an army offr cannot switch to ias in b/w service....
