Listen to the Mocking Bird
by Alice Hawthorne (1855)
I'm dreaming now of Hally, sweet Hally, sweet Hally;
I'm dreaming now of Hally,
For the thought of her is one that never dies:
She's sleeping in the valley, the valley, the valley;
She's sleeping in the valley,
And the mocking bird singing where she lies.
Chorus:
Listen to the mocking bird, listen to the mocking bird,
The mocking bird still singing o'er her grave;
Listen to the mocking bird, listen to the mocking bird,
Still singing where the weeping willows wave.
Additional Verses:
Ah! well I yet remember, remember, remember,
Ah! well I yet remember,
When we gather'd in the cotton side by side;
'Twas in the mild September, September, September,
'Twas in the mild September,
And the mocking bird was singing far and wide.
When the charms of spring awaken, awaken, awaken:
When the charms of spring awaken,
And the mocking bird is singing on the bough.
I feel like one forsaken, forsaken, forsaken.
I feel like one so forsaken,
Since my Hally is no longer with me now.
Chorus:

This sounds like an urban legend to me. At the time that the Stooges were filmed there was no foul language, inuendo, ect. At that time in Hollywood they had a 'morals' comminttee that made sure everything was cleaned up long before it hit theaters. The statement "At the time that the Stooges were filmed there was no foul language..." is really stupid! Of course there was foul language! In the "Brideless Groom" episode when Shemp drops the nickel in the phone booth and gets tangled up with Moe, you can VERY CLEARLY hear Moe say, "Get the F--- up off me here! You don't even have to listen that closely, he says it really loud and clearly.
They had at least two of them. The one I remember was Three Blind Mice. Another was: The Call of the Magpie no, "Listen to the Mocking Bird", that was the refain, what we hear is "I'm dreaming now of Hallie,sweet Hallie'Richard Milburn in 1855, popular civil war tune..
I heard it being played by billy-bob thorton in the period piece "The Alamo". So if it was even a remotely accurate, I assume it's older than the stooges. To update the info that I previously entered, the name of the song is "Listen to the Mockingbird" by Winner, Septimus (Hawthorne, Alice).Philadelphia: Winner & Shuster, 1855. It being written in 1855 and the battle of the Alamo being fought in 1836 makes it a bit suspect but tunes of that era were played throughout the country before finally being written down for posterity. It can be heard WITH THE ORIGINAL LYRICS @ http://lincoln.lib.niu.edu/Songs/mockingbird.html ---- The theme song is "Three Blind Mice"! It is/was a nursery rhyme written in 1609 by English composer Thomas Ravenscroft in 1609. Earlier, the other thyme song, "Pop Goes the Weasel", was used. ----

The mockingbird was always a person that was very gentle, nice, sensitive, and maybe even quiet.A few examples would be Atticus, Tom Robinson, and Boo (Arthur) Radley.In the novel, Atticus explains to Scout that it's a sin to kill a mockingbird because all they do is make beautiful music for "us" to listen to, which metaphorically translates to somebody that doesn't hurt anyone.
Opening remarks for a speech contest should include a friendly introduction. Ice breakers and jokes are also good ways to get the audience to listen to the presenter's topic.
walk close to one of the openings and listen to how loud the music is. the opening with the loudest music is the correct one.
