Honestly get comfortable because it could be on for many years to come. I do not watch it because it is exhausting, but it still gets great viewership and networks are not going to cancel their most watched show
well... it differs!!
Season 8 is to end in May. I would guess after the twelve are selected this week that one person will go each week starting next week. They always seem to end on the last Show around Memorial Day and season 8 started with the 2 hour Premiere on 13 Jan 2009. I believe the adds up to 19 or 20 weeks
I believe "Had a Bad Day" from Season 5 was the first season they used an every week exit song... then Season 6 was "Home" by Daughtry... and Season 7 actually cycled through three different songs - "Hollywood's Not America" by Ferras, "Best Days" by Graham Colton, and "Celebrate Me Home" by Ruben Studdard.

The TV sitcom that used the Daniel Powter song "Bad Day" as its theme song is "American Idol." The song was featured during the elimination rounds of the show, playing as contestants were voted off. "American Idol" is a reality singing competition that first aired in 2002 and has been a popular show for discovering new musical talents.
