At 1st her cousin Leah Clearwater was dating Sam Uley when Emily came down to visit Leah, Sam imprinted on her.(If you don't know what that is read the book) And Sam broke up with Leah for Emily. Leah hated Emily from then on. One day, Sam and Emily had a fight and Sam got angry and he was unable to control himself from shifting. He was too close to Emily and he shifted and when he did so, he hit her in the face with his paw, and scratched her. Since it was so powerful, Emily got knocked out. They rushed her to the hospital and saved her. They lied to the town that she got mawed by a bear while hiking and now she was 3 huge scars down the side of her face. Sam has to look at that everyday and see what he did to her.
