The other gaurds that were trying to kill her take Fiyero to a field and "demand to tell them where the witch went". Knowing that Fiyero will die Elphaba casts a spell in "no good deed" hoping to save him. She thinks that the spell did not work, but at the end of the musical, we see Fiyero survived and has become the scarecrow.
