Nick was addicted to prescription pain killers at the time, so his mental state was very unstable. He kidnapped Melanie, but she soon learned that he was the one who killed Trent. The two fought and Nick accidentally knocked Melanie off of a balcony. She was saved by Philip, Stephanie, Bo and Hope. Nick was arrested and later convicted of the murder of Trent Robbins.
