How full were the lifeboats on the Titanic?

The lifeboats varied but there was a direct correlation between time and utilization - in other words, the first ones went out with many unused seats and the last ones were overflowing.

Why did the Titanic only carry twenty lifeboats?

Regulations at the time did not require placing the number of lifeboats to fit the ship's capacity. In addition, the White Star Line felt adding more lifeboats would make the ship more cluttered, so no more were added.

Did the Titanic have hideaways?

Yes. There were stowaways on Titanic. There were several Chinese men hiding in the lifeboats at a time when the Chinese weren't even allowed in the US. All other survivors were accounted for as ticketed passengers.

Why did rms Titanic's lifeboats read ss Titanic?

According to historian Jonathan Smith: "the prefix of S.S. is correct for the lifeboats, as at the time, Titanic was not in service. Upon entering service, Titanic was given R.M.S. to establish her as a Royal Mail steamer but the lifeboat plaques kept with the S.S. to assign her as a steam ship."

Could more people have been saved on titanic boats?

If there had been more lifeboats aboard the Titanic, then yes more people could have been saved. There was time and capacity to save more lives even with the original amount of lifeboats, but because of the lack obvious signs of damage and danger, many were reluctant to leave the boat to get on the much smaller lifeboats. The lifeboats were designed to hold 40 people, but many were launched only partly full.

Were there enough lifeboats on the titanic for all passengers?

This is more of a random fact, but the reason why there weren't enough boats on the Titanic was because a few years before a boat had sunk and there were too many life boats, so the designers only outfitted life boats on the Titanic for decoration more than anything else, as they thought it would never sink. The Titanic was designed to hold 32 lifeboats, it was eventually paired down to twenty. Lifeboat number 6 was designed to hold 65 people. For more info visit the link below.
