They brought many diseases such as smallpox, measles and influenza. With so many leaders and older wise people dying, the Indian nations must have lost all their sense of direction. With so many priests disappearing among these very religious cultures, people must have anguished about how to properly continue honoring the spirits of their ancestors, and how to restore their own relationships with their gods. Yes, to be causing such misery -- to even take away the powers of all the old medicines -- the gods must be very angry. What had the Indians done to deserve such punishment?
They got smallpox, typhus, measles, influenza, Bubonic Plague, cholera, malaria, tuberculosis, mumps, yellow fever, and pertussis and most every other serious infection disease Europe was plagued with for the past few centuries. It should also be noted that because of significant changes in their diet that Native Americans are three times more likely than other people in North American for diseases such as Diabetes, heart problems, cancer, and other nutritional problems. The mortality rate is also higher among tribal peoples from substandard medical care (current).

This concept highlights the interconnectedness and interdependency of relationships.

When the Europeans passed diseases on to American Indians, they and their ancestors had built up an immunity to the diseases. Some also did not know they carried the disease or it did not affect them because of their race. The Indians who then received the diseases suffered the way Europeans had when introduced to the diseases, but that's not really necessary to know most of the time because it was simply an ongoing thing that had started many many years ago. The Europeans had no idea that they even could pass it on to the Indians, and because they were immune, it was like no tag-backs in tag.The Europeans originally got the diseases from animals. They lived so close to pigs, cows and other animals that contracted diseases. They ate them, drank their milk and had them living in the same house, with just a wall separating it. These diseases that the Europeans received came from those animals. However, the North/Central/South Americans did not live nearly as close to animals. They did not have cows, sheep, goats, horses or pigs in America. There were very few illness that came to the Americans, therefore when introduced to diseases for the first time, the result was devastating. They were very clean people that lived in small groups.
