Why did India and Pakistan become separate countries?
They separated because there are two big religious groups, Hindus and Muslims who differ significantly based on language, traditions, food, customs and dress. As such it became impossible for the two differing groups to live together as a single nation in a single country. As a result of this in August 1947 when the British left India, two countries come into being Pakistan and India.
