when they reach the top of jay mountain they see the church engulfed in flames
when they reached jay mountain, they saw a beautiful sunset, and of course the church.
None of the boys actually see the beast. they see the figure of it on the hill and it just implements itself as an ideology on the island. basically, jack and ralph climb up the mountain, see a bulk figure/shape, which was actually the dead parachuter that landed on the island..

the dead parachuter.
No, the first boys to see the dead body of the parachutist on the mountain top were the twins Samneric, who were on fire duty there.
the fire on top of the mountain was out. Jack had taken the boys who were supposed to be keeping the fire alight away to hunt, meaning the fire was unattended and there was no smoke for a ship to see and hence the boys be rescued
Ralph said that a ship could see the smoke from up there and rescue them.
Ethan Allen fought in the American Revolutionary War as the leader of the Green Mountain Boys militia. It was composed of settlers from modern day Vermont. In the first decisive victory of the war, Allen and his boys took Fort Ticonderoga. The Green Mountain Boys were incorporated into the Continental army and Allen did not see further action.

When Ralph, Simon and Jack first climb the mountain they see a dip in the ground filled with blue flowers. The view from the mountain top reveals that they definitely are on an island. The island is roughly boat shaped with the mountain at the blunt end. The island slopes down through jungle to its pointed end, where it terminates in a rocky outcrop connected to the main island by a narrow causeway. Ralph points out that he can't see any smoke or boats and they assume from this that the island has no other inhabitants. On their way back to the beach the boys discover that there are pigs on the island.Later in the book Ralph, Roger and Jack climb the mountain looking for the beast, which Samneric claimed that they saw there. In the darkness they see the body of the dead parachutist and mistaken believe that it is the beast.
When Ralph, Roger and Jack climb the mountain they see the dead body of the pilot. The parachute lines have become tangled in the rocks making the body move when the wind blows. This creates the illusion that the movements are being made by something which is alive. In the darkness the boys assume that the indirect shape which they see moving must be "the beast." Sam and Eric also came to the same conclusion when they earlier saw the dead pilot's body.
In Toronto.
The body of the dead parachutist frightened the boys primarily because they did not realise that it was a body. In the predawn darkness when Samneric first saw the body, it moved as the wind tugged at its parachute and the twins thought they had seen a creature with wings. Given that this was what Ralph, Roger and Jack were expecting to see when they climbed the mountain, the illusion of movement convinced the three boys that they had also seen the beast.
