I work at a Regal theater and there are many different jobs an employee can uphold. There's a person "on door" which is the ticket tearer, the people that work in box are just call Ticket Sellers, there are ushers whom clean the theaters and make sure everything is going good. Lastly there are the people whom work in concessions.
Originally, a "projectionist" would load the two or three movie reels (one at a time) onto the projector. In the past, the intermission was so the projectionist could load the next reel onto the machine. Some theaters later used a double reel projector, but the projectionist still needed to switch to the second machine so the movie would continue. Now, most theaters use DVD not reel-to-reel. By the way, over the years, the projectionist also sold popcorn, candy, etc.
