In an interview featured in the May 13, 2009 issue of People Magazine, Kate Gosselin spoke out about the public scandal and her marriage. She's embroiled in a public scandal linking her husband, Jon Gosselin, to another woman, and Kate Gosselin tells PEOPLE in its latest cover story that she and her spouse have been privately struggling for months.

"I don't know that we're in the same place anymore, that we want the same thing," she says quietly. "I've been struggling with the question of 'Who is this person?' for a while. I remember where I was the first time I heard her name. It's one of those things where you can try to make it go away, but there's blaring, red flashing lights."

The name to which Kate refers belongs to 23-year-old Deanna Hummel, whose brother later claimed she'd been having a months-long affair with Jon.

For Kate, who has referred to her husband as "my balance, my strength and my stability," to now consider a future apart has been heartbreaking but not impossible. "You can't imagine yourself in a certain position when all this first happens, but you can do it over some months," she says.

"It's a lot like when I was first pregnant with the babies, and it was pure shock and denial. But over time I imagined six cribs in my house, and six car seats. When your mind is ready to go there, you can accept any number of scenarios."

Kate does have hope, however, that her marriage can be saved. "I will never give up hope that every member of our family can be absolutely happy again," she says.

Allegedly, Kate Gosselin's mother has been posting her support for Kate on various blogs and a Facebook group called "I am voting for Kate Gosselin in life".

One supposed post expresses her gratitude, and her frustration with the negative assessments of her daughter:

"All I ask is that you consider two things.

One, that you are not perfect either... so there is no room for imperfect people to judge others. NONE!

Two, that she does have family that your words do hurt. You can look at the family as innocents in this situation. You are hurting innocent people. I totally agree that you can have your own opinions. But you need to keep them to yourself. Calling someone names on a public forum lacks grace, understanding, and self-control. Your words are hurtful, whether true in your opinion or not.

Let's say you have a son or daughter. Maybe you do! Imagine if complete strangers who never met your child began to judge him or her and say outrageously hurtful things about them WHETHER OR NOT they decided to put themselves on public display by their own choosing! Attaching swear words and unkind comparisons and judgments to your child when they never got to know your child's tender heart, charming spirit, or great sense of humor would DEVASTATE YOU, would it not?

Imagine being a daughter watching these words people choose to say so off-handedly break your own mother's heart. I experience this everyday.
