Ponyboy and Cherry both realize that the Greasers and the Socs have the same needs, wants, fears, worries and joys. They may have different ways to solve the problem but all in all - they just want to have a good day. To not be beat up or lose friends, get their homework done and have the same chances to go to school and be respected. To have parents who care about them...

He learns that Darry always loved Pony and that Darry was just being responsible. Also he learns that things are rough all over for everyone and that the socs have problems too. He also learns that staying innocent or staying gold, like johnny said in his last breathes is very important and essential in his life. He learns that fighting doesnt solve issues, but just makes it worse. Pony learns that being a greaser might have its complications, but it really isn't that tuff! :)
