Because no other Soc would listen to him and understand what he is feeling and think he is a wimp. Ponyboy is understanding and would be caring for him. and the Soc wants to let his feelings out and he wants to stop fighting with the greasers and make a new friend

∙ 12y agoRandy wants to talk to Ponyboy because he decides not to fight in the big rumble because he feels it will solve nothing. He beleives that no matter who wins the rumble Socs will still be Socs and Greasers will still be Greasers, the rivelry will always exist.
