Yes and no (but mostly no). Sometime they are based on real events or they are about real issues: there are films called "documentaries" which have no actors, and use real people, for example. But even with a documentary, it is the product of the director's vision, and it tells the story he or she believes needs to be told. As for fiction, and most movies are entirely fictional, they begin with a good script, one that tells a story (it may be a comedy, a tragedy, an action-adventure, a romance, etc.); once the actors and actresses are hired, movie-making is about bringing that story from the printed page to the screen (or to home video). Making a movie involves shooting scenes repeatedly to get them right, lots of editing, use of special effects (today, often created by computers), and a finished product that has characters who seem real to the audience, even though they are not real at all. Like an interesting book, a movie is a work of fiction and it is meant to seem as realistic as possible. Some movies are so realistic that people who see them will cry when a character dies, even thought we know the character isn't real (and didn't really die). That is what is amazing about a movie-- it brings you into a world where you otherwise would never go, and makes you feel as if you are a witness to the lives of other people.
The Blair Witch Project is a documentary of 3 teenagers. They went up into the Blair Woods to make a documentary for school about the Blair Witch legend. The movie is spposed to look like it was filmed from Heathers Camera. The Blair witch legend is about a woman, in the 1700's accused of being a witch. The legend has lived on through many generations , and many still believe in it. The kids who went "missing" are not real teenagers, they are just actors and are not missing. The Blair Witch Project is a documentary based on the legend of the bell witch. This was a lady who was accused of being a witch and was executed for it. Later on she started killing children when she died. This was the legend and it took place in 1785 in Burkittsville. The documentary is about a group of three students that disappear and the footage is found to show what happened. It is rated 15 and is a psychological thriller which makes you ask yourself if this really happened and because it stops on a cliffhanger, it makes the movie more scarier. The documentary shows the footage of 3 students going through woods and getting lost. One of them disappears so there are only 2 people. They then find one of the others body parts (fingers, teeth) in a wrapped up bundle. They see sticks from trees in the shape of stick people hanging and also planted in the floor outside their tents, and they hear childrens laughter but they cant see anyone, this occurs in the middle of the night, whereas they wake up to see the stick figures.Right at the end, Heather Donahue, the only remaining student, runs into a abandoned house in fear, and she starts going up stairs but the camera started shaking vigorously until it lands on the floor and the film stops. It is presumed that all the students die. Apparently at the end of the film, in the credits, it says its not a true film. Wikipedia also classes it as a hoax documentary only basing it on the legend.Heather Donahue, Michael Williams and Joshua Leonard are real people but they used their real names as students for the film which confused IMDB because they listed it as their death dates when actually they are still making films.
