randy visits ponyboy in chapter 11 to see how pony was doing because he wasnt in school and cherry brought it up. then randy gets told to leave by darry because pony isn't doing too well and he was getting ponyboy all jumpy and upset.
The conversation Randy had with Ponyboy was about how Randy wasn't gonna be in the big upcoming rumble. He said he wasn't gonna be in the rumble because he didn't wanna risk getting someone killed or injured. He said instead he would get in his mustang and drive someplace far. Also he was telling Ponyboy how he wouldn't have never helped the little kids that Ponyboy and Johnny risked their life for.so then Pony boy was telling Randy he might have helped them and how it's the individual person that matters.

After his conversation with Randy, Pony realizes that the socks symbolize the material differences between the Socs and the Greasers. He understands that the Socs have a different lifestyle, marked by privilege and superficial concerns, whereas the Greasers face harsher realities. This moment highlights Pony's growing awareness of class distinctions and the complexities of identity and belonging. Ultimately, it deepens his understanding of the struggles both groups face, despite their differing circumstances.
