Roman Catholic AnswerOur Blessed Lady appeared in Lourdes, France and announced herself as the "Immaculate Conception".

The Immaculate Conception has been believed by the Church since very early on, the fact that when Our Blessed Lady was conceived in the womb of her mother, Anne, she was preserved from any stain of original sin. This, in the words of Pope Pius IX, "The most holy Virgin Mary, was, in the first moment of her conception, by a unique gift of grace and privilege of Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ the Redeemer of mankind, preserved free from all stain of original sin." This freedom from sin was entirely unmerited on her part, and a special grace, and exception to the natural law, given to her so that she would be a worthy mother to the Son of God. Pope Pius IX proclaimed this solemnly in 1854; four years later Our Blessed Lady appeared at Lourdes and announced that she was the Immaculate Conception.
