I would not say so, having been to the US myself I noticed Mobile phone networks for example were slower to introduce wireless broadband than in South Africa at the time. South Africa faces challenged growing it's economy with unemployment etc, but the United states is sitting on a mountain of growing debt which threatens the standing of the developed world. I believe South Africa is much much smaller, but not anywhere near the troubles that face the US.
