After their capture of Jeruslaem, the Babylonians deported the Jewish aristocracy to Mesopotamia so that they could not lead revolts at home. There they thrived, and when the Persian king Cyrus captured Babylon, he was prevailed on to allow their return to Judah. Those who did decide to return (many were well settled and stayed) brought back with them ideas which they had absorbed from Zoroastrianism including an evil one (the Devil) and resurrection, both of which had not previously featured in Judaism.
