The major plot line of Gossip Girl is her decision to stay with Prince Louis or call of the engagement and go back to Chuck Bass. And, Dan was going to reveal his feelings to her, but realized that she only could be truly happy with Chuck. He ultimately wants her happiness, so he tried to get them back together earlier in the season.
