The 'D' middle name of several of the show's characters, has not yet been explained. The only things that have been mentioned is that it is indeed significant, and that those people have 'the will of 'D'. However more than that has not been revealed yet. Luffy himself does not yet know the significance, though Gol D Roger and Whitebeard both did.
