The Cold War started. The United States entered into a war in the early 50's with North Korea / Russia to prevent Communism from taking over the entire country. Technically that war is still not over....The US Military and the South Koreans still guard the border between North and South Korea. The US also had to deal with Cuba / Russia when they tried to bomb America. Russia left with their arms. Viet Namese people and the French requested the aid of the United States to help them with their own military and how to fight the Viet Cong and North Viet Namese. The US was in that war for more than ten years. Eventually all of Viet Nam became communists and French Rule ended. The Cold War lasted beyond the 1960's. There was also a huge counterculture in the USA and they rebelled against the "Establishment and the good ol' Boy system in the Federal Government. This counterculture created colossal changes in the culture, people groups and lifestyle and changed mores. People grew wealthier during the wars too.
