Elle was played by Lola Glaudini
In Series 1 Elle is shot. Because of this experience she goes on a four-month leave to gather herself. Despite having physically recovered from the injuries she sustained during the Season 1 finale, Elle suffers psychological scars which take much longer to heal and eventually result in her entire personality changing following the shooting.
When she returns, a case involving a serial rapist affects her pretty badly and she soon shoots the alleged rapist in cold blood. The case is deemed self-defense. An obvious whitewash by the police.
Reid blames himself for not seeing the signs because earlier that night he had dropped by her room to make sure she was okay. She had been drinking. A short time after the shooting, Greenaway eventually resigns from the BAU, handing in her badge and gun. She also tells Hotch that she's not admitting guilt and that if she had to do it again, she wouldn't change a thing.
With that, Elle leaves the BAU for good.
Lola Glaudini
In her last case, they were trying to convict a rapist but were unable to catch him because Elle panicked and apprehended the man and he got out on the fact that they had nothing on him. She confronted him later and shot him in "cold blood" she was later dismissed from any charges and ruled self defense by the police force in that town. But then in going back to the BAU she turned in her gun and credentials but claimed it was not an "admission of guilt" because in reality the team new what had transpired. And she was never seen again.
She resigned after murdering a serial rapist.
