Popeye the Sailorman originally had one eye. He claims to have lost it in "The most arfull battle". Later, this was changed, perhaps to scare the children, and Popeye can be seen squinting first on one side, showing one eye, and then on the other side showing his other eye.

∙ 12y agoThere isn't a really canonical explanation of it. It's been variously claimed to have been lost in an "arful battle" with the Sea Hag's vulture, or to actually be still present but just "squinty" for undisclosed reasons.
