Firstly, the Rivets built into the Titanic were of a poor quality, and were prone to breakage from the start. When it hit the Iceberg, it 'popped' these rivets, as well as then creating a huge gash in the side of the boat. The hull was separated into 16 compartments, which even when 4 were filled with water it would still float. however, 5-6 compartments were flooded. these flooded compartments were at one side of the boat, weighing it down and slowly submerging that one end. eventually, the compartments put the boat at about a 45 degree angle, and the strain on the higher end of the boat caused it to break in half
