What happens in chapter 17 of new moon?

Edward tells Bella he must leave her, that their worlds are too different. She is found in the forest by Sam Uley, and brought home while being told the residents of the town are celebrating that the Cullens are leaving.

Absolutely nothing. Bella is still in a black pit of despair over losing the most important thing in life: her man, Edward the fairy princess Cullen. Take my advice and find yourself a better class of literature. I suggest Harry Potter by J.K Rowling those promote courage strength and bravery.

The main idea of chapter 9 (which is called third wheel), is that Mike asks Bella to the movies so she decides to make it a group thing. Mike is a little disappointed but agrees. They invite the gang but the turn out is a bit strange, Angela gets the stomach flu so Eric decides to take care of her so they're out, then Jessica decides she doesn't want to be around Bella (long story as to why she doesn't want to hang with her) so she's out and Bella invites Jacob. So it's just Jacob, Bella, and Mike. Mike is bummed that Jacob is there and Jacob is mad that Mike is there. It all goes wrong because Mike gets the flu and throws up. Jacob says, "What a marshmallow! You should probably go for a guy that has a stronger stomach." They take him home and then it's just Bella and Jacob. Though it should've been Jacob that was the third wheel, in actuality Mike was.

It was Bella's birthday, she didn't want gifts and didn't want anyone to know about it. The Cullens invited her to their house for a party, while there she is almost attacked by Jasper, but was saved by Edward. She was cut pretty bad so Carlisle stitched her up. Edward takes her home, then the net day Edward asks to walk with him through the woods. He tells her that his family is leaving, Bella asks if she is going along but Edward says no, just him and his family. Then he tells her that he doesn't want her anymore and leaves her in the woods by herself. Sam Uley finds her and brings her back to Charlie. Bella goes into deep depression and stays isolated for three months.
