This book is about how the Irish were in a time of great sorrow. In Ireland, everyone depended on their potato crops. But now, the potato crops have failed and everyone is starving. Everybody is almost poor and can't afford any food. Since the crops failed, everyone is traveling to America, to work or just leave. Or some work for the King and get paid. Nory Ryan's Song is a great book about her and her family, I recommend this book and the sequel to it, 'Maggie's Door'.
