causes ions to slow down. As the ions slow down, they group together and arrange themselves into orderly crystalline structures. This process is referred to as crystallization.

As crystallization continues, these individual silicon-oxygen tetrahedrons join

with one another, and other ions, to form the basic structure of most minerals and

igneous rocks.
