∙ 14y agoSlaves were generally set to work as soon as they were big enough to do something useful, no matter how small. They were not sent to school in the US sytem of slavery, although some who were used as companions ot the children of the Master, would pick up knowledge through that association. It was illegal in most states to teach a slave to read.
