Olivia Benson is a New York City police detective. Her job is to investigate criminal cases assigned to her and her partner by her superior officer. The SVU unit investigates crimes that have a sexual component, but like all TV crime dramas, there is always a murder or two involved. Once the detectives have uncovered the perpetrator(s) of a crime, they turn all of their investigative information over to the district attorney's office, who prosecute the accused.
