Martin Luther King
challenges and difficulties
Martin Luther King has a critical, cynical attitude towards many religions and philosophies. Without realizing it, he prevents himself from appreciating new viewpoints and attitudes. King is more rigid and dogmatic than he realizes. His approach may also be too intellectual or moralistic. Martin Luther King takes his own political beliefs and spiritual philosophy very seriously, worrying and fretting if he is not 100% clear about some ideology or theory.
Fear of the unknown, of change, and/or of death may plague Martin. He strongly resists changes and transitions rather than greeting them with curiosity or a spirit of adventure, which makes them much harder for him.
On another level entirely, Martin Luther King is very careful about joining forces, and especially his material resources, with others. King wants to keep his own and other people's property and assets very distinct.
Now we will discuss patterns of behavior which Martin Luther King instinctively and habitually reverts to when under stress - a mostly subconscious process that he is apt to over indulge in because it is so familiar and hence easy for him. The direction Martin Luther King needs to follow in order to develop balance, greater awareness, and wholeness is also described.
Martin Luther King benefits by becoming more aware of the rhythm of the seasons and the natural world, learning to slow down and allow life to unfold in its own time. Nurturing a garden, a child, or some other living, growing thing gives Martin Luther King a sense of inner balance.
Martin Luther King has a tendency to be deeply suspicious, to not take anything at face value and to see hidden agendas and dark motives even where none exist! Life does not have to be a constant conflict... Martin needs to learn to accept things as they are.
King also needs to develop patience, peace and stability by grounding himself in his daily work and behaving consistently and reliably towards others.
It is in his relationships with others that he is most likely to wrestle with these issues. There is a dynamic balance (or conflict) within Martin Luther King between acting spontaneously and being true to himself versus modifying himself or his behavior to suit others. Martin Luther King seesaws between being inordinately concerned with his self to being overly conciliatory and concerned with others' needs, rights, or opinions about him. Learning to act authentically and forthrightly regardless of possible consequences is King's task.
Going through with all the violets people wanted to do, the whites beating, him trying to point out that Blacks, and Whites are the same and they have to be treated equally He made that victory but then he was shot! after his big day.
