An example of a closed electrical circuit would be a battery to a light bulb, the only source of power being the battery and no other input from an outside source.

Like video cameras in a store they would be considered a closed circuit surveillance system so long as the signals stay inside the store and don't leave to a remote location.

open 2nd answer: The meaning of circuit means ' a closed loop', whether it is an electric circuit, a circuit of a race, or the circuit of a traveling judge. So, by definition, the Series Circuit is closed.

Why does an electric circuit that operates correctly need to be closed circuit?

In order to have the electricity or the flow or electrons going around the circuit, the circuit must be closed. If it is not closed then electrons cannot flow.
