The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word "savage" (plural Savages) as describing things which are thought to be primitive & uncivilized. The word can be applied to almost any object. These days due to a better cultural understanding, the term has shifted usage and declined to describe primitive civilizations, but on the rise to describe persons or organisations that aspire or commit acts of brutality.

For instance:

"An angered bear can be a savage beast".

"Robinson Crusoe encountered what he described as 'savages' in the Daniel Defoe book of the same name".

"Only a savage could murder an innocent victim".
