Marina Carr [b. 1964] is an Irish playwright who tends to write about the tragedies that work themselvees out in rural Irish homes. One such example is 'Woman and Scarecrow'. The play tells the story of a woman who is dying, with the knowledge that she's leaving her eight children to the care of her husband. Throughout their marriage, her husband is more concerned with having affairs than making his family life work. The main interaction is between the Woman who is dying, and the Scarecrow, who most often is interpreted as the projection of the Woman's soul or as her guardian angel.
